Tibet and Qiang-nationality Autonomous Prefecture with an area of
230,000 square kilometers and a population of 1,6 million people and one
million among which are Tibetan. At an average altitude of 3000 meters
above the sea level, this area features in many high snowy mountains and
broad highland pastures. Here plants of various shapes and colors and
numerous wild animals exist, some of which are rare species such as
giant panda, golden monkey and takin. Particularly this area is rich in
water and mineral resources. The religious atmosphere here is different
from that in central Tibet, because the most important lamaseries in
this area are of Nyingmapa-sect and of Jonangpa-sect. Up to now only few
foreigners have succeeded in traveling in this area.

Day04 Kangding B/L/D :
Here there are many colorful highland lakes. Muge Tso Lake 35 km away
from city is a national protection area After trekking by the lake
return Kangding in the evening.
Day05 Kangding - Dawu jeep 210 km 1N in simple guest
house B/L/D :
On the way visit Tagong monastery. After arrival at Dawu visit a
Tibetan Buddhism school, was built in October 1981. In this school more
than 30 lamas including adults and kids study obligatory subjects like
Tibetan, Tibetan literature, Buddhist philosophy, painting and Chinese.
Panchen Erdini once was the honorary president of the school.
Day06 Dawu - Garze jeep 182 km 1N in simple guest house
B/L/D :
After arrival at Garze the real cultural, religious centre for the
Tibetans living in Sichuan, visit Garze monastery of yellow hats-sect
(Gelukpa), with more than 1100 monks living in this biggest monastery in
Kham and the constructions of this monastery just like a huge free
market.
Day07 Garze - Dege jeep 178 km 2N in simple guest house
B/L/D :
On
the way cross over Que'er pass (4900 m). Then have a break at the foot
of the mountain to take photos by the Xinluhai Lake (4500 m), which is
so quiet, beautiful that you feel just in a fabulous world. In the
evening arrive in Dege which lies on the border between Tibet and
Sichuan.
Day08 Dege B/L/D :
The inhabitants in Dege are Khampa-Tibetans who have independently
lived here for hundreds of years and the influence of Lhasa reaches this
region just in a slight way. Different religions like red sect, yellow
sect, white sect, black sect exist together in peaceful harmony. In the
morning visit Dege scripture printing press which was built in 1729 and
the biggest scripture printing press in the world today.
Day09 Dege - Paiyul jeep 180 km 2N in simple guest
house B/L/D :
Along the Jinsha river by the way to Paiyul visit Gathog monastery
which was the biggest one of Nyingmapa-sect built in 1132. In the late
afternoon arrive in Paiyul, a beautiful small city by the Dingqu river.
Day10 Paiyul B/L/D :
Visit Paiyul monastery created in 1675, which is one of the three
biggest monasteries of Nyingmapa-sect in Tibetan Kham area (both others
are Kathog in Paiyul and Dzogchen in Dege).
Day11 Paiyul - Garze jeep 238 km 1N in the simple
guest's house B/L/D :
Drive to Garze, the real cultural, religious centre for the Tibetans
living in Sichuan, where there are numerous lama monastery. Here you can
deeply feel the religious atmosphere. In the evening arrive in Garze.
Day12 Garze - Setar jeep 222 km 2N in simple guest
house B/L/D :
Drive to Setar over scattering grassland. "Setar" is Tibetan
meaning "gold horse".
Day13
Setar B/L/D :
Visit Larong monastery the "Buddhism Seminary" in Setar where
more than 5000 Lamaistic pupils including members of Tibetan,
Han-Chinese and Mogolian are trained as well as Dongga monastery which
was. created in 1686.
Day14 Setar - Zamthang jeep 170 km 2N in simple guest
house B/L/D :
Drive to Zamthang of Aba Autonomous. In Tibetan "Zamthang"
means " place of the wealth God ". It is so hard to enter in
because of the terrible roads that this place has always been separated
from the outside world.
Day15 Zamthang B/L/D :
Visit Zamthang monastery the ancestor's temple of Jonangpa-sect. Though
the teaching of Jonangpa-sect is somewhat opposed to that of powerful
Gelukpa-sect in the centre of Tibet the influence of Gelukpa-sect
reaches this isolated area just in a slight way.
Day16 Zamthang - Jinchuan - Danba jeep 260 km 1N in
simple guest house B/L/D :
On the way visit Guangfa monastery of Gelukpa-sect, which was
originally constructed as a monastery of Boen-religion In the 6th
century, and in Qing-dynasty the emperor Qianlong resigned Boen-religion
Instead of Tibetan Buddhism. From then on this monastery became a
monastery of Gelukpa sect. In the evening arrive in Danba.
Day17 Danba - Rilong jeep 80 km 1N in simple guest
house B/L/D :
Drive to Rilong. in the afternoon trek around Siguniang Shan mountain.
The Siguniang Shan (four-girls mountain) has 4 main summits. The highest
one is 6250 m. abve the sea level. The Minya Gongga is acclaimed as "king
of mountains in Sichuan" while the Siguniang as "queen of
mountains" in Sichuan.
Day18 Rilong - Wolong - Chengdu jeep 220 km 1N in
3*Huayang garden city hotel B/L/D :
On the way visit Wolong natural preservation center where more than 20
giant pandas are bred. Afterwards return Chengdu and enjoy Sichuan opera
In the evening.
Day19 Chengdu - Out :
Drive to Guanghan county (40 km away from Chengdu) to visit Sanxingdui
museum. Sanxingdui, the cultural and political centre of ancient Shu
Kindom with a history of more than 4000 years where hundreds of
magnificent antiques excavated and models are exhibited. After the lunch
transfer to airport for flying out.
